Subject: Retirement of Chief Jacob Nacke and Interim Leadership Appointment

The City of Hannibal announces the retirement of Chief Jacob Nacke from the Hannibal Police Department after 20 years of dedicated service to the community.

Chief Nacke has served with distinction throughout his career, demonstrating unwavering commitment, professionalism, and leadership in protecting the citizens of Hannibal. During his tenure, he has played a vital role in strengthening public safety, fostering community partnerships, and leading the department through continued growth and modernization.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Chief Nacke for his two decades of service and dedication to the community. His leadership has made a lasting impact on the Hannibal Police Department and the residents it serves. We wish Chief Nacke and his family all the best in his retirement and future endeavors.

Following Chief Nacke’s retirement, Lt. Alex Grote will be appointed as Interim Chief of Police, effective May 22nd, 2026. Lt. Grote brings extensive experience within the department and will provide steady leadership during this transition period.

The City of Hannibal will immediately begin the process of identifying the next Chief of Police. An internal search will be conducted to select the department’s next permanent leader.

The City remains committed to ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining the high standards of service and professionalism expected of the Hannibal Police Department.
