The City of Hannibal is calling for all interested citizens of the Sixth Ward, who wish to serve in the vacant position of Sixth Ward Council Member, to deliver to the Office of City Clerk a letter of interest no later than 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.
Minimum requirements/qualifications that must be met include:
- At least twenty-five (25) years of age
- Citizen of the United States
- Registered voter of the City
- Inhabitant of the City for at least one (1) year
- Resident of the Sixth Ward for at least six (6) months proceeding
- No person shall be entitled to hold any office who is in arrears for any City taxes
Council Members cannot hold any other compensated public office, or any position in City government during the term of Council Member. This position will be appointed by vote of the City Council and will serve for a temporary period ending with the next Municipal Election in April 2024, and requires attendance of two Council meetings held per month. Compensation is $200 per month and has no fringe benefits except for election to participate in Missouri Local Government Employees Retirement System (LAGERS).
Interested people should submit a letter of interest explaining qualifications and desire to represent the City of Hannibal and Sixth Ward as Council Member and include name, address and phone number. This letter will be used to determine who will be allowed to participate in a subsequent interview with the City Council, based on verification of the above qualifications. Letter of interest must be submitted to the Office of City Clerk by 10:00 am on November 1, 2023, to qualify.

Letters of Interest must be received by 10:00 am on November 1, 2023 and envelopes should be clearly marked with the name and address of the Respondent and the words “Request for Interest SIXTH WARD COUNCIL MEMBER” spelled out on the envelope to be delivered to:
