City of Hannibal Requirements
-If you are unsure that you need a fire inspection or building inspection, please call the building inspectors office to find out. (573)221-0111 opt. 1 However, if you have a physical location, sell food/drinks, have a mobile unit, etc. inside the city limits of Hannibal, you will be required to get an inspection. Your inspection will need to be completed before we can issue the license to you.
-If you do not have a physical location, aren't selling food/drinks, or you don't have a mobile trailer you won't need to complete the inspection/fire inspection portion of the packet.
-If you are selling any type of retail or merchandise you must have your Missouri Retail Sales Tax ID Number from the State of Missouri - Department of Revenue, we cannot process your application without this if you sell any retail or merchandise. We also aren't able to look that number up or obtain that number for you, you will need to register with the State of Missouri on the Missouri Department of Revenue's Website to get your MO Tax ID Number.
-The itinerant licenses are temporary licenses that are for those setting up for a short time or doing door to door sales. These generally require a background check from the police department (which can take up to two weeks- please submit your application in a timely manner prior to your date of event with that in mind). You can submit your application to bdooley@hannibal-mo.gov once it has been signed & notarized.
Affidavit of Gross Receipts Form (for any business selling retail/merchandise)
-The Gross Receipts Affidavit will need to be turned in with your business license renewal, only if you sell retail or merchandise. This form is due by August 31st, each year, you will use it to report your Gross Sales (from July 1, of the previous year to June 30, of the current year). The city will then notify you if you owe anything based on your Gross Receipts Affidavit after it has been submitted. Feel free to go ahead and print this out to keep track of your sales each month as you progress through the year, so you don't have to do it all at the end of June, if that is easier for you. You may submit this by email after it has been signed and notarized to bdooley@hannibal-mo.gov or by mailing it to the address listed at the top of the form.
City of Hannibal Requirements for Contractors
Any contractors conducting work within the City of Hannibal are required to obtain a Contractor's License with the City of Hannibal. The application will need to be submitted to the Clerk's office for approval before any work can be performed.
-If you are doing electrical or plumbing work, you will need to take the electrical and/or plumbing exam with the Building Inspector's office, before obtaining the license.
-If you have employees we will need a copy of your current workman's comp. insurance certificate.
-Any and all contractors that are hired by the City of Hannibal are required to obtain a Contractor's License as well. If you don't already have one that is up to date and current, you will need to fill out the application and submit it to the Clerk's office.
